Today, I spent a good chunk of my evening organizing everything in my kitchen, decluttering, and letting go of things we might not need. We’ve moved in to this apartment only a couple of months ago so we don’t have a lot of extra stuff in the house anyway. I like it simple, clean, and minimal.

In between the workdays, I often find joy in arranging things. I wiped the surfaces extra clean, cleared everything unnecessary from the countertops, put all the vessels in right places, cleared spice racks, made a tiny space for a new pothos for my kitchen, re-filled dishwasher soap, and so on.

Soon after, I felt very relaxed, calm, composed, and making love my home more. Decluttering is a great exercise if one is overwhelmed. Atleast for me, it always works well. Arranging my wardrobe, or my desk, or my computer screen. Anything. Just organized, structured, creative, productive, and clean — the way my mind is feeling. See, I felt a tad bit more creative than usual — that pushed me to draw the image representation of this article.

There’s tons of research that talks about the benefits of decluttering, including cultivating a better environment, reducing anxiety, sleeping better, improved focus, higher self esteem, better relationships, what not. Go, try it!

PS: This article is a part of the 100 Happy Days series where I have committed to writing about simple things in life that bring me happiness and joy. Hoping that this experiment will help me cultivate a deeper relationship with myself. If you like it, please follow the list in the link above. Deeply appreciated!
